The Shepherd’s Staff – Call for Coats
As the weather turns colder and the crisp frost sets in at night you may be getting your winter coats out and preparing a giveaway pile. Or, maybe your children have outgrown their coats, hats, and gloves from last year. Many local families and individuals will be in need of a coat and warm clothes this winter season.
The 29th Annual Shepherd’s Staff Call for Coats is currently in progress. “Last year The Shepherd’s Staff distributed coats to over 4,621 individuals, with the expectation of distributing at least if not more once again this year,” said Brenda Meadows, Executive Director of The Shepherd’s Staff. Coats are distributed free to Carroll County residents by the Shepherd’s Staff.
As in last year, coats will be distributed to remote areas around Carroll County through partner agencies, churches, and food pantries.
In addition to coats, the Shepherd’s Staff is also looking for thermal and regular underwear and socks used in layering for those that work outside and homeless folks, parents, and children during the cold winter months. “It’s gifts like these that help make some of our guests lives just a little better, bringing hope to people. One of our homeless friends that was in for assistance said in our shared conversation, “ I homeless, not helpless.” She is a survivor, and with a little help she will be back on her feet in no time,” said Brenda.
The Shepherd’s Staff is accepting new and gently used donations of infant to adult outerwear as well as hats, gloves, and scarves to give to those without. Admiral Cleaners will be cleaning and doing minor repairs on coats through November 19th. For a list of local coat drop off locations visit http://www.shepstaff.org/outre-coats.asp.
Although the official “Call for Coats” ends Friday, November 19th The Shepherd’s Staff will continue to accept coats on site at the Shepherds Staff location through the cold winter months.
